Please include your device type (phone, tablet, TV, or browser), the app version if you're using the mobile app, and a short description of the problem.
Getting started
What is SafeTube?
SafeTube is a parental control player. Kids can watch only the channels
you approve. Optional dual-screen lets siblings watch different approved
channels side by side.
How do I set up the parent PIN?
On first launch of the mobile app, follow the setup steps to create a
4-digit parent PIN. Settings always requires this PIN. Kids can browse
only your approved channels.
I forgot my parent PIN. What can I do?
The PIN is stored only on your device, so we can't look it up or reset it
for you. Clear the app's storage instead
(Android: App info → Storage → Clear data) and run setup
again. This resets your approved channels and PIN.
How do I approve or remove channels?
Open Settings (parent PIN required) and approve or remove
channels there. Kids cannot change the approved list. On this website,
edit the channel list in
config.js and redeploy.
Watching & playback
How does dual-screen mode work?
With dual-screen enabled, Screen A and Screen B each pick an approved
channel independently. On phones you can switch tabs or rotate to landscape
for split view. On tablets and Android TV, both decks appear side by side.
You can turn dual-screen off in Settings if you prefer a single player.
A video says it cannot be played. Why?
Some YouTube videos have embedding disabled by the channel owner.
SafeTube cannot play those inside the app. Choose another video from
an approved channel.
How do I use the remote on this website?
Use ◀ ▲ ▼ ▶ to move focus, OK or Enter to
select, and Back or Escape to go up one level. While a video
plays, use the on-screen controls for browse, play/pause, skip, mute, and
solo audio.
Devices & apps
Does SafeTube work on Android TV or a set-top box?
Yes. The mobile app supports Android TV with remote-friendly navigation.
This website also runs in TV browsers (Jio STB, Android TV, etc.) using
arrow keys and OK/Back on the remote. Some set-top boxes only allow apps
from their own store and may not support sideloading.
What's the difference between the website and the mobile app?
Both offer whitelisted dual-screen YouTube playback. The mobile app
(SafeTube Splitscreen Whitelist) adds onboarding,
persistent settings, and native TV/phone layouts. This website is a
static version you can host yourself and configure through
config.js.
Where do I download the mobile app?
SafeTube is on Google Play as
SafeTube Splitscreen Whitelist,
and on the App Store for iPhone and iPad
(download here).
Always download from official store listings.
Channel approval search isn't working on Android. Why?
The mobile app needs a YouTube Data API key restricted to
com.wizeb.safetube with the correct release or debug
SHA-1 fingerprint. Without a valid key, parent channel lookup will not work.
Privacy & data
Is my child's data collected?
SafeTube does not require accounts. Whitelist and PIN settings stay on
your device. YouTube/Google handles video playback under their own
policies. See our Privacy Policy for
full details.
